ZEIMETZ:  Seek information on our ancestor John/Johann ZEIMETZ, immigrated to Ill/Cook County in the mid-1800's and bought a parcel of land in Blue Island that came to be known as "the Zeimetz Farm". The Southtown Economist (Sunday July 13, 1980) published an article on the farm (then located between Pulaski and Hamlin). We believe his wife was Katie/ Katharina and that their son Martin inherited the farm.

COAKLEY/COKELY/COKLY, DESMMOND/DESMEND: Per Illinois State Archive databases, David COAKLEY/COKELY/COKLY m. Margarit DESMMOND/DESMEND in Will county. I had been told many years ago that they mar. in Ireland and may have even lost a child in the crossing to America. Apparently that was incorrect. Received copy of license from IRAD but it is such poor copy that I can't read much of it. They were married in March of 1840. By 1850 they were in McHenry County. Where in Will county did they reside? Assuming they married in the Catholic Church as that is what they attended in McHenry County. Signature of the person performing the ceremony is not legible. Possible that it says priest under it or possibly vicar. What infor is available for 1840? Cenus?? Naturalization??

said that when he was between 3 and 5 years old, his mother died and his father sent him by train to a religious
orphanage in Chicago. Frank ran away from the orphanage into lower Michigan and took the Murphy name,
trying to find his birth name. Hoping to find the orphanage and any records. Frank listed his parents on his
Social Security file and marriage record as Slyvester and Mary Noney (McKay) Murphy. Social Security told me
Frank ought to have showed them a birth certificate or church record created before he was 5 years old.

SCANLAN/SCANLON: Seek death information, descendants of Martin SCANLAN (b. 1870;
came to Chicago from Ireland with brother Michael; d. 1910) who became a police officer in Chicago.
He married  (wife's name unknown) and had eight children, some of whom became attorneys in Chicago.
A search on the internet yielded the following marriage in Illinois. SCANLAN, MARTIN married TATE, ANNA
in Cook County, Illinois. The family story is that he was shot in the line of duty and died from his injuries.

Michael (b. 1862; d. 1932) m. Johanna MURRAY (b. 1870; d. 1940). Michael died at his desk in his office
from heart failure and left two children:
1) Joseph SCANLAN (b. 1895; d. 1915 in a motorbike accident). His engraved watch was passed on to a
family member in Ireland.
2) Mary SCANLAN, a teacher who never married. She used to vacation on cruise liners. On one cruise
she had an accident and got about $500,000 compensation. She once came home to Kilkee and gave a
reception in Dublin to all her relatives.

FINDLAY: What became of a Roderick Findlay and his descendants who emigrated to Canada (Montreal)
in the 1880's? By 1890 he was a chief clerk with the Canadian and Pacific Railway Co. According to a letter
of 12 Nov. 1893, "Roderick Findly left Montreal With his wife and child for Chicago to be a cashier in
Asonia Elictric Co". In 1922 he was living in Chicago at 6333 Drexel Avenue. I believe he was married
to Matilda? (Till) and had a son Roderick D. and a daughter Ella b. ca 1892.
I have seen a letter Roderick wrote to his brother Robert in Montreal (a successful architect),
referring to their brother Thomas who had remained in Scotland and was down on his luck.

CALUMET CITY NATURALIZATIONS: The County County Clerk's Office told me
SSGHS has the naturalization records from the Calumet City Court. However, your website
indicates you have them from the 1920's-1950's. I'm looking for naturalizations from 1896-1908.
I assume SSGHS does not have them? Was the Calumet City Court even open in 1896-1908?
